How to boost your metabolism

How to boost your metabolism, the smarter way!

Are you exercising regularly; cutting down the calories in your diet and still not seeing any changes? This might just be down to your metabolism.

Metabolism stands for the rate at which your body converts calories from the foods you eat to energy. The faster your metabolism rate, the more calories you lose and, possibly, the more weight you shed.

Whilst there’s some uncontrollable factors associated to metabolism (genes, gender and age) there’s also some small little changes that you can make to help achieve your target goals.

Build muscle

Our bodies constantly burn calories, even when we’re doing nothing (clever right?!). This resting metabolic rate is much higher in people with more muscle. The more muscle you build, the faster your metabolism will be, and the more calories you will burn while at rest. Therefore, when muscle mass decreases, the metabolic rate also decreases.

You can build muscle through resistance or weight training.

Drink the green stuff

Green tea is packed with antioxidants and nutrients which are really great for your health. Antioxidant green tea works to help reduce oxidative stress and free radical build up in the body to aid in natural detoxification so next time you’ve got the kettle on, switch your standard black tea to a super tea and feel the difference.

Spice up your life

Spicy dishes contain natural chemicals that can enhance your metabolic rate. Studies show that spicy foods can temporarily increase metabolism by about 8% over a person's normal rate. So incorporate spicy food into your diet every once in a while for that extra boost – if you can take the heat!

Don’t skip breakfast

The purpose of breakfast is “to break the fast” between last night and today. When you go long periods of time without eating, your body can go into starvation mode and start to conserve energy. Breakfast starts your daily metabolic cycle from the first step, digesting food so it’s best to eat a delicious and nutritious breakfast as soon as you can to start the burn.

Walk more

Regular movement not only raises your metabolic rate, it also keeps it elevated for hours after. If you do it regularly, it’ll keep your metabolic rate at a more constant high. So take an early morning stroll or get off the bus one stop earlier, easy peasy.

There we have it, you don’t have to make drastic changes to your routines in order to achieve your overall weight or goals. Here at TEA+, we truly believe that a little goes a long way and if we all make small, calculated changes then the results will come fast and easy.
